University of Salford
Year 1
1st Semester
Game Design Fundamental: We have developed and created a board game which helped my team to work on the fundamentals of game design. This module demonstrated the importance of team work, games design and refinement to improve a gaming concept.
Entertainment Technolgies: This module encouraged me to craft a product and code it. I have made a Simon Says game for this project. Though coding is not my skill set, I still gave it my best to deliver my product to the highest presentation.
Visual Arts: This moudle has 3 choices of briefs to choose from. I focused on the portrait brief which enhanced my drawing skills and attention to detail. This project gave me an introduction to character design and helped me give control on proportion design
2nd Semester
Covid 19 impact: During midway of the second semester, the outbreak of Covid-19 affected our workload and teamwork. The university made changes which meant we missed weeks of work. Over time, the university amended the briefs to make the outcomes achievable and accessible to all students.
Principles of Games Design: The team created a 3D pixelated plat former game set in the future. We added a Gravity Gun Mechanic which can lift objects up. With this concept, we built up the levels. My role for the group is an environment artist, I worked on a Pixel Art application that lets me paint pixels, below is a slideshow of my work.
Digital Graphics: This module had an open brief which we can focus on anything we would like to. I chose to do pixel art environments as environment design is a art area I want to develop on.
Introduction to Programming: This module wanted the students to create skecthes of code and show the results. This has been amended to have a few outcomes rather than make a coded game.
Year 2
Semester 1
Digital Environment Art: This project was the beginning of learning advanced 3D skills. Starting with simple beginner knowledge to optimizing 3D assets, working with high poly models and texturing models. This module helped me present my 3D work more professionally.
Gameplay Development Foundations: In this group module, we created an escape themed game which is Tim Burton styled. This game has horror elements.
In this group module, we were tasked as a group to develop a video game based around a theme and style. I advertised myself to the class that I am a 3D artist and wanting to work in a group. Our group developed an escape themed game in a Tim Burton art style. In this game, you are in a haunted school tasked to escape, my role is to deliver 3D props to the team. I have also pushed myself to develop a sketchup map for the level.
Human Data Interaction: In this project, I have created a Car Park app to help people with their travels around Manchester. This module helped us understand the principles behind UX design and how important it is when building a game. This helped me with structuring game ideas and things I need to be aware of.
